Gills Water Well Drilling and Exploration Private Limited Company (GDE) was founded in Oct 2006 by a group of technocrats: two of them are Ethiopian. Gills Drilling and Exploration Private Limited Company (GDE) is registered and licensed under the existing authorizing institute in Addis Ababa to carry out both water well drilling and platform construction works.

​The company is established with the prime objective of water Well Drilling and allied works in Ethiopia under the Commercial Code of Ethiopia 1960. It is registered with the investment authority and has a capital of 8,000,000 (Eight million) Birr. The company’s Business number is EIC PCO 01/660/05.
​The company has several years of active local experiences in all types and sizes of water well drilling and construction. It has achieved reputation for outstanding performance and timely completion of service contracts. The company’s quality performance and excellence in the client satisfaction is firmly founded on experience, hard work, clear communication and a shard vision of client’s needs and interests. ​Ethiopia is one of the very populated nation in Africa with 80 million people with 80% of it depend on primitive agriculture. Because lack of good governance, the country was involved in a continuous and harsh war for many years. Hence The people of Ethiopia did not get a chance to get adequate and clean water. Almost 80% of the people have been using rivers and ponds which are not even clean and fit for drinking water and many people had been suffering and dying from different water born diseases though Ethiopia is one of the African countries which has a huge potential of water resources with extensive land areas, varied topography, geology, soil, plants, and climate, considerable biodiversity and huge amounts of groundwater resources. Although possessing all these natural resources, Ethiopia does not manage much of its resources properly. As a result, many areas of the country frequently suffer from drought and famine for varying lengths of time. Most of the water on our planet occurs as saline water in the oceans and deep underground or is contained in polar ice caps and the permanent ice covers of the high mountain ranges, so only 30 million KM^3 of fresh water, that is only 2 percent of all water, plays an active part in the hydrological cycle and in the maintenance of all life on the continents ( UNESCO, 2004). In addition to this, it is this fresh water that sustains stream flow during dry seasons and is a major source of water supply in semi-arid and arid areas. Nowadays the Government of Ethiopia has designated a large portion of its annual budget for groundwater development (for drinking and irrigation purposes).
